How to disable Secure DNS/DNS over HTTPS (DoH)

DNS over HTTPS (DoH) can impact the performance of streaming using StreamLocator on browsers like Chrome,Firefox and Edge. Apple's Safari browser does not currently use this feature so we will not be covering it today.

Below we will cover how to disable this feature on each browser:

Chrome

  1. Open the settings menu using the three dots button on the top right side of the screen.
  2. Scroll down until you see the Security option like in the image below and select it.
  3. Scroll down until you see the "Use secure DNS" toggle. Toggle that feature off and restart Chrome.

Firefox:

  1. Enter the settings menu using the hamburger menu (3 lines) or the cogwheel symbol on the top right side of the screen.
  2. Select the General tab like in the image below
  3. Scroll down until you see the Network Settings section. Select the Settings button next to it.
  4. At the bottom of the screen that pops up, should be the "Enable DNS over HTTPS" tick box - make sure to un-tick that feature, click OK and then restart your browser.

Edge:

  1. Enter the settings menu using the 3-dot-menu or the cogwheel symbol on the top right side of the screen.
  2. Select the "Privacy, search and services" tab like in the image below.
  3. Scroll down to the "Security" section and disable the "Use secure DNS to specify how to lookup the network address for websites" feature and restart Edge.
